We have received several questions about the difference between the Meem ” مـ “ as a punctuation sign, and the Meem ” م “ as a Tajweed rule called ” ‘Iqlab”. In this Blog we will show the difference to you.

The Meem ” مـ ” as a punctuation sign:

This punctuation sign means that you have to stop your recitation. You have to stop at the word below the meem, because if you continue your recitation the meaning will be affected.

Listen and Practice here: ( فَلَا يَحْزُنْكَ قَوْلُهُمْ ۘ إِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ )

The Meem ” م ” as a Tajweed rule called ” ‘Iqlab”:

This kind of meem comes between consonant noon/Tanween and Al-Baa’ letter ” ب “, and it’s a Tajweed rule called ‘Iqlab, and means that this consonant noon/Tanween will be pronounced as meem, with making a Ghunnah / tune about two vowels.
